The benefits of being a lighting design and manufacturing studio

The Benefits of Being a Lighting Design and Manufacturing Studio

In a lighting market often dominated by standardized production, the choice of a designer light fixture has become a highly intentional step. For architects, interior designers and design collectible enthusiasts, the quest for a piece that combines longevity, a strong identity and uncompromising quality, inevitably brings us back to Canadian lighting manufacturers.

Creativity and innovation are inseparable from environmental responsibility. This commitment is reflected in DARMES’ choice of materials, such as recyclable aluminum and steel, sourced in partnership with local suppliers. Every light fixture is carefully assembled at the DARMES workshop in the Laurentians, Quebec. Looking ahead, the studio is also actively working to integrate glass recycling processes into its new collections.

Why choose a Canadian lighting manufacturer?

The landscape of canadian lighting design is experiencing a real boom. Local creators are setting themselves apart by offering a strong aesthetic, prioritizing simple forms, timelessness, and a quality of manufacture that is the legacy of our manufacturing traditions.

Criteria for Excellence: Identifying the Authenticity of a Lighting Manufacturer

How can a client recognize the authenticity of a superior design piece beyond words? The answer lies in the attention paid to materials, finishes, and, of course, the creative approach that underpins them.

A Distinctive Design Approach

Alex Joncas, in co-founding Darmes, wanted to establish a coherent artistic direction by bringing modern minimalist design, focusing on the perfect balance between function and form. By first working with neon in the Ra collection and then glass, with the Etat-des-Lieux and Gigi collections, we seek simple, often geometric shapes that blend into the space while providing a sculptural focal point. This is complemented by an homage to contemporary or brutal forms: our 1979 collection in collaboration with Will Choui draws, for example, from the powerful aesthetic of 1960s Montreal industrial design, or the Doppler collection, in collaboration with Florian Martin, which creates a true atmosphere, like a work you want to admire.
